100 Digital Solutions for Engineering: Transforming University Expertise into Real-World Tools

100 Digital Solutions for Engineering: Transforming University Expertise into Real-World Tools

There is a common stereotype that academic science and real-world engineering exist in parallel universes. Universities generate deep fundamental knowledge, while the industry demands rapid, applied tools "needed yesterday." It is high time we broke this barrier.

At Dystlab, we fully support our academic partners' drive for transformation. That is why, together with the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas (IFNTUOG), we have launched a joint initiative designed to bridge the gap between scientific theory and engineering practice — "100 Digital Solutions for the Engineering Industry."

What is the Project About?

Our goal is simple: to combine deep academic expertise with the modern capabilities of TechEditor.

Hundreds of valuable algorithms currently gather dust in university archives, lecture notes, and manuals. Ranging from classic standard-based calculations (DBN) to unique departmental innovations, these usually exist only on paper or in clunky, "home-brewed" Excel sheets.

We are taking these methodologies and transforming them into convenient, standardized tools.

This is not abstract theory. We are building practical assets: calculation sheets and automated design notes (e.g., thermal performance analysis of building envelopes or hydraulic pipeline calculations). These solutions will become reliable daily assistants for engineers.

It is worth clarifying what we mean by a "digital solution." It is not just text, nor is it just a calculator. It is an interactive document where the math and the description are inseparable. Simply put:

A TechEditor digital solution looks like a report but calculates like software.

The result? A library of at least 100 verified solutions on the Dystlab Store. Ukrainian scientific expertise will become accessible to engineers worldwide, helping them save time and minimize errors.

A Standard of Quality

Downloading files from the internet involves risk. Is the formula right? Did the author mess up the coefficients?

In our case, the University acts as the guarantor. By validating these solutions, scientists set the standard. Users can trust that the methodology is scientifically sound — a level of confidence often missing in the market.

Roadmap: Our Path Forward

Realizing such a large-scale vision requires a clear plan:

  • December '25: Kick-off. We formed working groups and introduced the faculty to TechEditor. We also started filling the "Bank of Ideas" to decide which tasks (from student labs to industrial cases) to automate first.
  • January '26: Prototyping. We are dedicating the first month of the year to the pilot launch. The goal is to fine-tune our "production line" and ensure the templates are user-friendly.
  • February — April '26: Active Phase. Three months of intensive development. We will scale the process, focusing on accuracy and UX.
  • May '26: The Big Release. Final verification, design, and the official launch on the Dystlab Store, accompanied by a presentation to the community.

The Innovators

This isn't just about one or two departments. Over 20 scientists from diverse technical fields have already joined the project:

  • Construction & Architecture;
  • Electrical Engineering;
  • Oil & Gas Engineering (from geology to drilling);
  • Energy Transport;
  • Environmental Safety;
  • IT Technologies.

This ensures we are building a truly multidisciplinary library, not just a niche set of tools.

Dystlab's Role

In this project, Dystlab acts as more than just a technology provider; we serve as mentors and integrators.

Our mission is to help scientists adapt their knowledge to the digital market. We teach our partners to think in terms of automation algorithms rather than simply "digitizing paper." Dystlab experts provide technical consulting to build the most efficient template architectures.

Crucially, we also bridge the gap between development and the market. We analyze real user needs to ensure every tool solves a specific pain point for the practicing engineer, rather than being a "solution in a vacuum." Finally, our team handles the packaging, publishing, and marketing of the final products.

Why Are We Doing This?

To be honest, this is our first project of this kind. It is a live process, and we are adapting as we go.

But we believe it is worth the effort. This is Science to Industry in action. We are not just creating digital solutions — we are setting a precedent where Ukrainian university science becomes a driver of innovation for the global market.
